Honest. Accomplished. Committed. These are the values Lori Chavez-DeRemer has held onto throughout her entire career. From 2010-2018, Lori was Mayor of Happy Valley where she led Oregon’s fastest-growing community. As Mayor, Lori presided over important changes in the city, making it more business-friendly, offering more affordable housing options for families, and creating a safe place to build a career and raise a family.
Before being elected mayor, Lori’s public service career began in 2002 when she served on the Happy Valley Parks Committee. In 2010, she was elected mayor and became Happy Valley’s first female and first Latina elected mayor.
Lori once again made history, in 2022, by winning Oregon’s 5th congressional district in one of the most competitive races in the country. Lori was the first Latina and first female Republican elected to the US Congress in Oregon.
Since joining Congress, Lori has quickly stood out as one of the most bipartisan members, working with Republicans and Democrats across the country to solve our toughest problems from access to child care to addressing the ongoing homelessness crisis. That’s because like so many, Lori was tired of the same old divisive politics and knows that nothing is more important than showing up to work and getting the job done for Oregon families. Lori currently serves on three committees known for their bipartisan work: Transportation & Infrastructure, Agriculture, and Education & Workforce.
Her most important job, she’ll tell you, is being a mom and a small businesswoman. She’s married to her high school sweetheart, Dr. Shawn DeRemer. Together, they are parents to twin daughters, who are making their own impacts on the world.
