About Lori

Lori’s background

Honest, accomplished, and committed, Lori Chavez-DeRemer has been the leader Happy Valley needed as it surged to the status of Oregon’s fastest-growing community. As Mayor, Lori Chavez-DeRemer has presided over important changes in the city, making it more business friendly, a safer community, and a great place to build a career and raise a family.

Her most important job, she’ll tell you, is as a mom and small businesswoman. She’s married to her high school sweetheart, Dr. Shawn DeRemer, and supported the couple as he finished medical school. Later, she helped Shawn found Anesthesia Associates Northwest.

Lori’s public service career began in 2002, serving on the city on the Happy Valley Parks Committee, where she helped deliver a memorable Fourth of July Festival.

Later, she won a seat on the Happy Valley City Council and became council president.

In 2010, Lori was elected first female Mayor of Happy Valley, and won reelection to two subsequent terms.

She and Shawn are parents of twin daughters, both now following successful careers. Annie is a special education teacher for the North Clackamas School District in Happy Valley. Emilie is currently earning her law degree at Michigan State.
